Theresa Hewlett has deep roots in the Foothills area, having grown up locally. Her familiarity with the region gives her practical insight into both the local community and the broader metropolitan landscape. Over the years, Theresa has developed a solid reputation and established positive relationships with residents, businesses, General Practitioner Doctors (GPs), the Child Health Nurse, and various community support services.

With two decades of experience in the mental health profession, Theresa brings a wealth of knowledge utilising a broad range of psychotherapeutic practices. She is skilled in multiple treatment approaches and modalities, and her work is grounded in a person-centred, trauma-sensitive, and solution-focused model that incorporates evidence-based scientific practices. Theresa values the expertise that clients bring about themselves, their relationships, and their experiences. By combining her professional knowledge with the clients’ own insights, she supports individuals in making meaningful changes and reducing suffering. Her goal is to assist people meet their needs within their physical and social environments, fostering greater satisfaction and joy in life.
Qualifications and Areas of Expertise
Theresa is a qualified therapist and counsellor who assists individuals of all ages with a diverse range of challenges and concerns. She spent 15 years as a practising psychologist before ceasing to use that title at the end of 2025. Theresa’s specialist knowledge covers complex trauma, interpersonal relating difficulties (also known as personality disorders), couples and family therapy, and hearing voices (psychosis).
Career Background and Interests
Theresa began her career at the Hearing Voices Network of WA, where she developed a keen interest in the area of hearing voices and recovery. She expanded her expertise by learning from people with lived experience as well as international leaders and trainers in this field. Through her clinical work, Theresa recognised that many mental health challenges stem from difficulties in relationships. This understanding has fuelled her passion for helping couples, parent-child pairs, and families strengthen their relationships and address interpersonal challenges.
